Ojai, or ‘Shangri-La’ as it’s known to some residents sits in the beautiful California wilderness, surrounded by mountains. The city, whilst small, attracts tourists all year round who come for it’s boutique hotels, golf, nature, retreats and excellent organic produce. Around this tourism industry a thriving local community has formed, with excellent restaurants, galleries and shopping, but if you’re looking for chain stores, you won’t find any here. Ojai boasts some of the best private schools in the country and there’s some great public schools too. Crime is very rare in the city too, at a fraction of the national average.
